Nov24 - Rotary Club hosts the Civic Lunch

The Rotary Club of Warwick welcomed Cllr Jane Knight, Chair of Warwick District Council, Cllr Mrs Christine Cross, Mayor of Warwick, and Jayne Topham, Town Clerk, to their meeting on November 23rd for the annual Civic Lunch.

After lunch Cllr Jane Knight talked about her experiences visiting groups all over the District who have concerns about a wide range of issues ranging from telephone boxes to HS2. During her year as Chair of the Council she is trying to bring people together from various agencies to deal with issues such as homelessness and the environment. On May 7th she hopes to arrange a walk along the river bank from Warwick to Leamington as a family fun day. Cllr Knight welcomed the support given by the club to the Hospital in Bo, Sierra Leone.

Cllr Mrs Cross told the club how much she valued their voluntary work running activities such as the Bonfire, Carols at the Castle, and the Thai festival, and raising funds for local charities. Her charities are the Aylesford Unit at Warwick Hospital, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and the Brain Tumour Charity. Proceeds from the Tree of Light in the Market square this Christmas will be shared between the club and the Mayors charities.

Vice President John Hibben thanked the guests for their work on behalf of the town, and wished them well for the remainder of their busy year in office.
