DESCRIPTION:An evening meeting\, which is open to members and guests. \nThe speaker will be Professor Harvey Nichols (Department of Environmental Biology\, University of Colorado and his talk is entitled ‘Nuclear Pollution’ – with the sub-title “Dark doings at a nuclear weapons plant in Colorado: a mystery partially solved”. \nHe will use his experiences in his work at Rocky Flats to discuss Politics and society in the USA.   Production at the Rocky Flats plant was temporarily halted in 1989 after EPA and FBI agents raided the facility.   Operators of the plant later pleaded guilty to criminal violations of environmental law.   At the time\, the fine was one of the largest penalties ever in an environmental law case. \nClean-up began in the early 1990s and the site achieved regulatory closure in 2006. \n
