SUMMARY:Thai festival returns to Warwick Racecourse
DESCRIPTION:The 13th Rotary Thai festival returns to Warwick racecourse on Sunday July 16th following a successful debut there last year. This popular event has outgrown the Market Place and the racecourse provides more space for additional attractions\, and plenty of space for car parking. \nThai people from all over the region came last year to enjoy the atmosphere and meet up with friends and local people.. Gates open at 10.30 on Sunday with over 40 stalls selling Thai food\, beer and wine\, folk gifts\, spices and massages\, and organisers hope that more Warwick craft traders will join them. Racecourse bars and terraces will also be open so people can have a great day out and enjoy the atmosphere of the Orient.  The organisers report that with over 3\,000 people attending last year nearly £4\,000 was raised for local charities and everyone had a great time. \nThe festival is being supported by Warwick racecourse\, working in partnership with the Rotary Club for the benefit of the community. With easy access from the town and car parking\, all of its facilities will be available to the public\, the bars and stands at the racecourse providing shelter if there is rain. \nBuddhist Monks will set up a temple and start the festival off with their ceremonies\, following which Warwick Mayor Cllr Stephen Cross and the President of the Rotary Club will open proceedings at 12 noon. This will be followed by a programme of entertainment on stage throughout the afternoon\, with Thai dancing\, boxing\, music and cookery demonstrations. \nThe entrance charge will be £3 in advance\, £5 on the gate and is to cover the costs of the day’s entertainment and setting up the festival. Tickets can be obtained from the racecourse\, on-line\, as well as at Warwick and Leamington Tourist offices\, Claridges\, Woodloes Post office\, and Coffee Lounge at Chase Meadow.   \nThe focus of the festival will be on Food\, with over 40 stalls selling food that would not be out of place in Bangkok. Other stalls will be selling Thai crafts and aspects of eastern culture. Local traders are welcome to apply for a stall. \nBuddhist Monks will start the festival off with their ceremonies\, and the traditional reception of gifts from the traders. On stage throughout the day will be a top-class presentation of Thai culture\, with dancing\, music\, kick boxing and cookery demonstrations.  There will be a large children’s area on site with roundabouts and slides\, paint balling and goal shoot\, as well as face painting\, ensuring plenty to keep younger people entertained. \nSponsors Tourist Authority of Thailand\, Warwick Castle\, Kia\, Costco and Chang Beer\, are supporting the event\, with all profits going to charitable causes. \nTickets are now on sale\, on-line from Warwick racecourse\, – visit this link Warwick Racecourse \, or at Warwick and Leamington Tourist Offices\, Claridges in Warwick\, Woodloes Post Office and The Larder Box cafe at Chase Meadow. Tickets are £3 in advance or £5 on the gate. \nThe pictures shown were taken at last year’s event: \n   \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
