SUMMARY:Warwick Young People’s Midsummer Concert
DESCRIPTION:Last Tuesday the 13th Midsummer Young People’s Concert was held in St Mary’s Church\, Warwick. Organised by Warwick Rotary club and presented by Warwickshire Music\, St Mary’s is an ideal location to make a “Big Noise”!\nPresident John Hibben welcomed Warwick Deputy Mayor\, Neil Murphy\, as the church filled with some 200 children and parents from 8 schools\, and the Central Music Theatre Group. \nNewburgh Primary choir and orchestra started with “Warm Up Blues”\, before singing a spirited “Zip a dee doo dah” to get the concert underway. This was followed by a rousing rendition of “Don’t Stop Believin” from Aylesford choir. \nChildren from Ridgeway Special school- the “Ridgeway Rockers” gave an enthusiastic performance of “Bungalow” learned as part of the Singing Pavements project and ended with “Sunshine\, Showers and Rainbows”\, complete with umbrella and water to the surprise of the audience. \nWarwick School Lower Strings comprises 27 players who played a brisk “Allegro” and “Summertime Rock”. Myton School followed with a solo piano piece – “L’orage”\, and then 2 flautists got feet tapping with a couple of country songs. \nWoodloes Warblers from Key Stage 1 with support from year 3\, enchanted the audience with 4 animal songs; “A BUG”\, “Rosie Camilla During”\, “Holly the Hedgehog”\, and ended singing and miming the “..Ugly Duckling” to loud applause. \nWestgate Chorus surprised everyone by singing confidently a Vaughan Williams “Cantata” in Latin\, and then moved up the aisle of the church presenting a song from the Disney film Pocahontas. Kings High percussion ensemble performed a short rhythmic piece using very basic instruments. \nYoung people from Central Warwickshire Music Theatre Group provided the finale with excerpts from recent productions Hamilton and The Lion King and sent everyone singing on their way. Anyone between 8 and 18 can join and get further training in song and musical theatre. \nCllr Neil Murphy thanked teachers\, parents and all the children for putting on such a talented concert. President John Hibben gave a special thanks to Jeremy Dibb of Warwickshire Music for bringing all the children together. Rotarian Alan Bailey explained that all proceeds from the school’s concerts go to supporting music in local schools. Over the last 6 years the club has been able to allocate around £11\,000 to schools to purchase musical equipment\, provide tuition and assist in funding choir and music training events. \nMyton Flautists \nWoodloes Warblers \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
