Rotary Club Of Warwick

Nov5 - Warwick Town Bonfire Sat Nov 2nd

Fantastic Fireworks lit up the Warwick sky last Saturday with their rousing show to the music of Star Wars lifting everyone’s spirits on a damp night.

Thousands braved the evening rain with wellies and umbrellas to see the annual Bonfire and Firework show organised by Warwick Lions and Rotary clubs at Warwick Racecourse. The grandstands and bars provided shelter and a great view of the fireworks, and with food stalls and Lions selling hot punch on the tarmac concourse it proved the ideal venue.

A queue formed at the entrances at 4.30 as children headed for the funfair and the light sabres and spinners quickly sold out! Bars and hot food stalls did brisk trade with some lucky people eating dinner indoors at Kingmaker restaurant with a good view of the show. Unfortunately, the damp ground restricted the parking which spilled over into the local area. The persistent rain also made it impossible to get the Bonfire lit – the first time ever!

Cllr Neale Murphy, Mayor of Warwick joined the Presidents of Lions and Rotary with guests to watch the show and saw the three Guys made by the young pupils of Newburgh and Westgate schools. Andre Klein, Racecourse manager, compered the show and provided the staff and facilities of Jockey Club to ensure things ran smoothly

After the spectacular firework show had finished and people headed home Neil Chisholm, Chair of the Bonfire Committee said “we are delighted that Warwick town people turned out for their regular show and are grateful for their support. Our team worked hard under difficult conditions and were delighted by the turnout”

Proceeds are distributed to local charities and good causes by the organising clubs.

The committee would like to acknowledge the support of Warwick Racecourse, CJ Events, Bovis Homes, Unipart, Geberit, Moore & Tibbit’s, Godfrey Payton and The Tuckery, and Hilton Hotel, as well as all the local retailers who helped with the sale of advance tickets.
