This year’s competition was held on Jan 17th at Westgate Primary School with five teams competing from Kineton High School, Kingsley School, and Warwick School.

Club President, Alan Bailey hosted the competition which was attended by Warwick Mayor Cllr Oliver Jacques, parents and colleagues.

Students debated a wide range of subjects; Intermediates choosing “Books are better than TV”; “The need for a universal Language”; and “Bring back the death Penalty”, whilst Seniors considered whether “Prisons do not work in the UK”; and “Safeguarding Young People in the Modern World”.

Head Judge Mo Sutherland commented that everyone had done their research and made some thought provoking points and the results had been very close.

The Intermediates competition was won by the team from Kingsley School and the Senior competition was won by the team from Kineton High School, who now go forward to Regional Finals on February 11th at Campion School.

Warwick Mayor Cllr Oliver Jacques presented Book tokens to the winning teams and certificates to all participants and told them that it is important to “Find your Voice” in order to get on in the world.

Alan Bailey said the Rotary Club has organised the competition for many years and all the teams were “winners” as learning to speak in public gives them an advantage in life.
