Aug13 - Warwick Rotarian heads the District

Warwick Postmaster Paul Jaspal has been appointed to the top job for the Rotary Club’s District 1060 – Heart of England for the year 2015-6. Paul took over as District Governor from Alcester Rotarian John Crawford on Wednesday 1st July at a dinner held at Warwick Hilton attended by over 160 Rotarians and partners from across the region.

District 1060 includes 63 clubs across the West Midlands with around 1,650 members, and includes Birmingham, parts of Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Staffordshire, Lichfield in the north to Shipston on Stour, Rugby and Bewdley. In his year Paul will have to schedule a visit all the clubs to meet members and learn about projects in their local communities.

Paul joined Rotary in 1998 and will be the second Rotarian from the Warwick club to take the top job, following Don McConnell the town optometrist who was DG in 2006-2007, Paul’s wife Bala is also a member of the Rotary Club of Yardley and Sheldon.

Paul has chosen two charities for the year “The Kitchen Table Charities Trust” founded by John Humphrys which changes lives by making small donations where they can make the most difference; and locally the Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust, which clubs across the District will be encouraged to support.

The international theme for Rotary in 2015-16 is for Rotarians to “Be a gift to the World” and they are urged to give their time, talents, and knowledge to improve lives in communities across the globe and make a difference. If you feel that you have any time to spare to help your local community, there is a Rotary club near to you. The Rotary Club of Warwick meets on Wednesday lunchtimes at the Warwick Hilton, but other local clubs meet in the evenings.
