Jul5 - Kindness Awards to students

Kindness to others makes the world a better place, said Mathew Watson Head of Westgate Primary School speaking in school assembly last week.

Making awards for kindness to two young students, the school had been nominated by Rotarian Laurie Day to receive moneys he had been given as a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Rotary Club of Warwick. Laurie said that many children get awarded for their academic progress, but not for being kind.  We need both in life to succeed.

Teachers identified one girl – Nancy Reeves in Year 4 and one boy Rupert Malin in Year 5 who were presented with a Kindness Trophy to keep for the year and a voucher for £50 to spend.

Nancy is a good friend to everyone and is a wonderful role-model for others as she upholds the Westgate values. Nancy has visited Warwick Hospital and Park View Care Home with the charity ‘Kissing it Better’ to cheer up patients and residents. Nancy sees the positive in every situation and she is determined to make the world a better place.

Rupert is a caring boy who supports his peers extremely well and always looks for the best in people. He loves life and wants everyone else to love life too. He always has a smile on his face and people are drawn to his warm personality!

Presenting both young students with their awards President Rachel Hinton said what a valuable skill this was and encouraged others to follow their example. The Rotary Motto is “Service above Self” and they both demonstrated values held by Rotarians
