President Rachel Hinton of the Rotary Club of Warwick and club members welcomed young students from local secondary schools to their annual scholars’ lunch this week.

Students from Warwick School, Kings High, Myton School and Aylesford together with their teachers, joined Rotarians for lunch last Wednesday and were introduced by Youth lead Rotarian Bala Jaspal.
The students told Rotarians about the numerous charities they were supporting. Kings High tries to get every pupil to join in at least one charitable event and supports the Foodbank as well as a Primary school in Kenya.
Warwick are organising an art auction in November for Helping Hands, and in Movember are raising awareness of Prostate cancer. They raised over £25,000 last year which impressed Rotarians who know how much work this takes.
Myton students are supporting the Endometriosis Foundation, as well as Children in Need. A student from Aylesford talked about a trip he is making with Camps International to Costa Rica to help build facilities for indigenous peoples there. The range of events was amazing as was their enthusiasm and commitment to give something back to the community.
President Alan Bailey talked briefly about Rotary, which is a world-wide organisation, and outlined the projects for young people run by the club both at home and abroad. Delivering dictionaries to Yr 4’s in junior schools, Youth Speaking competitions, and the Midsummer Schools concert, as well as funding the re-roofing of the school in Bo, Sierra Leone. Club members work hard to raise the money with events such as the Thai festival and next month’s Town Bonfire.
Jon Wassall handed out a list of local charities which could help them with grants as they progress into colleges or work.
President Rachel concluded by thanking the students for taking time out from preparing for their exams and wished them every success for the future.
