Jul11 - Thai Festival brings crowds

Thousands of Thai people turned out for Warwick Rotary’s annual Thai festival last weekend, with partners Magic of Thailand bringing all the artists and stalls.

Showers couldn’t dampen enthusiasm for the shows of traditional dancing, Thai boxing and Lady Boys, and there was a wide range of Thai foods and Singha beer. Prayers and blessings by Buddhist Monks added to the atmosphere throughout the weekend.

Warwick Mayor Cllr Oliver Jacques opened proceedings on Saturday, introduced by Rotary President Alan Bailey.

Warwick Racecourse provided their facilities; the 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts parked the cars for 2 days receiving donations; and WARKSAR provided First Aid support. Startin Kia and Warwick Castle provided some sponsorship towards the clubs best fundraiser of the year.

Warwick Rotary started an annual festival of culture and food to raise money to help orphans after the Tsunami in 2004. We have stayed in touch over the years and recently sent aid to Thailand during the pandemic. It was good to be able to renew ties this weekend, the feeling is clearly mutual.
