Rotary Club Of Warwick

Dec5 - Wines of Languedoc

Local wine expert Wendy Gedney entertained Warwick Rotary Club with a seasonal talk about French wine at their meeting last Wednesday.

Wendy started the company Vin en Vacances in 2009 after teaching the subject of wine for a number of years. She particularly liked Languedoc Rousillon, in the south of France and it’s unspoilt character and lives in a cottage there for half the year. Her company provides a variety of tours, picking you up from your accommodation, and taking you round local vineyards, learning about local history and meeting local wine makers. Tours include gourmet foodie tours, sampling the foods of the region,  cruising down the Canal du Midi, and visiting Carcassone and Montpelier.

Wendy has recently written a book “The wines of Languedoc Rousillon” which several members purchased for Christmas, and she invited members to book a tour when next in France.

Thanking Wendy for her talk, Rotarian Trevor Jones said how surprised he had been to discover that the little known region produces a third of all the wine in France, and more than all the USA. It will certainly be on our destination list now!
